Project Description
Hendon Hall
Restoration of 2 important original chimneypieces. Both chimneypieces were removed to have a large amount of restoration work on them due to bad restoration work when they were taken out in the 1970s.
Fireplace 1: Convent Sienna and Statuary marble carved chimneypiece. The ingos and soffit were badly damaged; the Convent Sienna panels had missing sections of material.
The Convent Sienna chimneypiece had been restored in the 1970’s. The restoration work was poor with unsightly repairs, bad joints, and many components out of alignment. The whole chimneypiece had to be taken apart back to its constituent components. Each component was restored and then the chimneypiece was re-boxed ready for installation.
Fireplace 2: Carved Statuary marble chimneypiece Circa 1780. The chimneypiece was very dirty and sustained with heat damage from the open fire, which left the marble friable. Various sections of the marble were replaced, and a new shelf installed.
